I've noticed in my performances of pre-hot music that a lot of people really can't get over it. I think it's still a big issue in our ears, but it's part of the bedrock of modern taste so we don't even know it's there.

Who can help but love the hot?

Yet our perception of "the hot" as "the hot" may keep us from seeing the other shapes, colors and sensations in music. Perhaps there are other avenues than "the mannered" and "the hot". Perhaps this is the Holy Grail of our time, as the hot was of the 1920s.
